Yes, inspections are required during the construction process. Per the state, the following minimum inspections are required: footing, foundation, framing, insulation, electrical rough, plumbing rough, building final, plumbing final, electrical final and fire final.

3. What do I need construction permits for?
Construction permits are required for projects like replacement of a hot water heater, siding, fence, pools, decks, additions and many more. For more information about permits please contact the Building Department at (201) 818-4400 ext. 209.

4. Who is responsible to obtain a permit?
According to the Uniform Construction Code, the homeowner is responsible for obtaining the permit prior to any work is done.

5. Are final inspections required?
Yes, final inspections are require according to the State Department of Consumer Affairs Law 13:45A-16.2. We recommend that you have final inspections done before you submit your last payment to your contractor.

6. Does the Borough of Allendale have a Property Maintenance ordinance?
Yes, the Borough of Allendale does have a property maintenance ordinance. It is Chapter 199 of the code book. If you would like to see a copy of the code please talk to Dawn in the Building Department.

7. What needs to be done if I sold my house?
If you have sold your house, you would need to schedule a CCO (Continued Certificate of Occupancy)inspection. This certificate is only good for 30 days so please schedule the inspection as close as possible to your closing.
