Full-time Superintendent for the Department of Public Works for the Borough of Allendale - a municipality with 6500 residents. This position will manage/direct a small department to carry out Borough work such as street maintenance, lawn and field maintenance, recycle center management and other related projects as required.

The ideal candidate will have a general knowledge of municipal public works administration, operations and planning. Ability to organize and supervise direct reports to carry out all DPW work in the Borough. Working knowledge of municipal government budgeting, purchasing, and payroll procedures is preferred; How to develop, implement and oversee new programs and projects; organize and maintain records on operations and programs is a must; prepare specifications/RFP’s for vehicles, equipment and all other Borough jobs; prepare required reports as needed by county and state; give clear oral and written directions to subordinates, utilize computers with relevant software.

Must have knowledge or be willing to learn the bidding process and other applicable municipal laws. Must liaise with Mayor & Council (M&C) regarding budget and ongoing operations and provide reports and updates as needed.

Must have excellent interpersonal skills and establish and maintain working relationships with direct reports, outside vendors and contractors, engineering and state agencies and M&C. Attend department meetings as necessary.

Bachelor’s degree from accredited college/university preferred.  Minimum 3-5 years in municipal public works, private construction, facilities maintenance, or related areas. Current NJ Public Works Manager Certification or willingness and ability to obtain same.  Ability to pass criminal background check.
