Veolia - Flushing of Water Mains & Hydrants - On or About June 10, 2024

Beginning on or about June 10, 2024, Veolia will be flushing water mains and hydrants in Allendale. Flushing helps us to continue to provide you with quality water and dependable service. It also ensures adequate hydrant flow and pressure.

The flushing process may temporarily produce discolored water or lower water pressure. Flushing removes sediment from the distribution pipes, which can stir up minerals and result in discoloration. The discoloration does not affect water quality.

The following tips can help if you experience discolored water:

  • Run cold water from your faucets for a few minutes until the water is clear. If it remains discolored, wait a few minutes and repeat this process.
  • After you flush, remove the aerators on the tips of your faucets to clean any sediment. Unscrew and remove the aerator, or screen, soak the parts in vinegar for an hour, then scrub with an old toothbrush. Rinse and reattach.
  • Aerators should be cleaned once a month to improve water quality and pressure in your home.
  • Avoid washing clothes until the water clears. If laundry becomes stained, rewash with detergent and a rust removal agent before drying.
